New in the area and want to meet great friends?


Moving to a new area means leaving old friends and connections behind. The workplace and the connections you make through schools can be excellent places to find friends. The Newcomers Club of Greater Chapel Hill, Inc., is here to help you find new friends, connect you to your new community.


Our Newcomers Club is an organization that facilitates a variety of social activities and interest groups that will allow you to find people who share your enthusiasms, whether hiking or wine tasting, dinner groups or book clubs.There is something here for everyone.


If you are new to the Greater Chapel Hill area in the last three years, give us a look. Members have five full years of participation in the club, an ample amount of time to build a new network of friends to last a lifetime.The Newcomers Club is a welcoming group to all.

In Memoriam          

 

We are saddened to announce the passing of Malcolm Derrick on October 31 at age 83. Malcolm was the beloved husband of Eva Derrick for 31 years and is survived by his son Matthew Derrick of Winnetka, Illinois. Malcolm had 3 step children, Enno Krebbers from Small Cayman Islands, Bruce Krebbers from Westmont, Illlinois, and Tirtsa Malavenda from Hopewell Junction, New York.

Malcolm and Eva Derrick joined Newcomers 2 years ago after moving to Chapel Hill from Lemont Illinois where Malcolm had an illustrious career as a Senior Physicist Emeritus at Argonne National Laboratory.

Born in Hull, United Kingdon, he had a Doctoral degree in Physics and taught at Carnegie Tech and Oxford. He then came to Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago to work on a new high energy accelerator, and eventually rose to be the Director of the High Energy Division. He was an accomplished physicist and a well known speaker.

Malcolm and Eva recently moved to Fearrington Village, where Eva will remain for the immediate future.

Burial will be private.
